Wicked attitude!
I see there hasn´t be anything on Alpinestars for quite long time. I think I can make I valuable addition.
@Wodan - who asked wether somebody has experiences with cracked Al-Megas
About 2 days ago I posted the following in the Alpinestars cromega DX thread on the Vintage forum of MTBReview:

I consider having my frame repaired. When I decide to do that or not I take at least those two points into account:
1 - It need to be done cheap. I has never been my intention to spend a lot of money on this Alpinestars Al-Mega XT project. Besides that all the components are still in very good shape and they could be very usefull as spareparts for my other bikes.
2 - I want reasonable prospects about the durability of the frame/repair.
At the moment I am making phonecalls with some repairers. Of course I will let everybody know what I decide and, if I go for it, what my experiences are.
To be continued....

BTW sorry for my not using German. Writing this much in German will probably have me ending up with a headach as I am not used to it. Maybe I should move to Germany once to develop more routine. Is also a nice justification to go were all the vintagestuff is largely available.

Inspired by this thread I recently bought myself a ´91 Al-Mega XT. Probably you know it: The Elevated alloy bike in the early nineties paintscheme. A paintscheme I like so much (and many others dislike so much). It´s really near mint except for one thing: There is a crack in the left seatstay.
I checked the bike very carefully when I bought it cause the reputation of Elevated bikes is not always good. After I inspected the welds and noticed that there was hardly no wear on the entire bike I concluded it must be OK.I paid and left.
Great was my surprise when I cleaned it and noticed a crack 8cm above brake the brakeboss. The crack went almost round the tube. Strange is that it is not near a weld.

Does somebody know: Is this common for Al-Mega´s? I consider having it welded. Is the frame worth the (small) investment or will it probably collapse again in a few months/weeks/days?
I will post a picture of the bike in future. It looks awesome.
