Hi!
I changed from a Deluxe Select+ to a Super Deluxe Ultimate on my Radon Slide Trail. I did notice some improvements in terms of plushness for sure, but I don't like a few things.
I can pretty easily use most of the travel/all the travel on bigger hits, but on single, small-smaller sharp hits like rocks and roots sometimes the rear of the bike just shoots up and it feels like the shock is not doing anything.
I'd also like more a usable rebound adjustment range if possible. I'm at 3 clicks currently, after 4-5 the shock just gets ridiculously slow. While on the
Pike for example (tuned by MST) I have sooo much more usable range and finer steps. This was kind of the same on the Deluxe.
Shock is aftermarket with an MM tune. I'm fairly light at around 66kg. The leverage ratio of the bike starts at 2.8 and falls to 2.2 in kind of a straight line. I'm at 165-170psi and 3 clicks of rebound (counted from open).
I was always interested in suspension and tinkering. I was thinking about trying a different stock tune. Maybe an L compression tune, and possibly an L rebound tune, maybe a linear one. What do you guys think? Any other recommendations?
Any other place to buy shims in Europe other than schneider-consulting-elektronik? They charge a lot for international shippping.
(I'm in Hungary)
Also, even though the shock was new, I did a teardown and bleed just to make sure everything is fine and to get familiar with the process and the shock. When I opened up the shock, it had 3-4 rides on it, some of them were pretty hard with a day at the bike park.
When I let the IFP pressure out, there was only a very very slight hiss, certainly didn't sound like 250psi to me. When I took out the IFP bleed screw, the oil that came out was aerated and foamy. After the rebuild and bleed, the shock definitely felt a bit more firm. No binding, no roughness, nothing like that, it just feels like it has more compression damping.
Is it possible that the shock sat in a shop for a long time before I bought it, and the IFP pressure was low, and possibly some cavitation occured, hence the softer feel? Maybe just a bad factory bleed?
Anything I could have screwed up while assembling the shock? Didn't take off the shim stack. Does the orientation of the compression assembly (that's in the piggyback) matter? (RCT shock with a two position pedal switch)
