Cape Epic 2025 – 7. Etappe Der große Showdown am Finaltag – die Fotostory

Am Finaltag zeigte sich das Cape Epic nochmals von seiner besonderen Seite: Regenfälle in der Nacht und am Morgen zwangen die Organisatoren zum Improvisieren, weshalb sowohl die Strecke als auch die Startzeit angepasst wurde. In der Gesamtwertung änderte sich auf dem kurzen Teilstück derweil nichts mehr. Bei den Damen siegten Annika Langvad/Sofia Gomez Villafane souverän, bei den Herren verteidigten Nino Schurter/Filippo Colombo ihren knappen Vorsprung und feierten somit einen perfekten Saisonauftakt. Der Tagessieg ging an Georg Egger und Lukas Baum. Hier gibt’s die finale Fotostory samt Rennbericht.

Damen: Langvad wird endgültig zur Legende

Annika Langvad steigt nun endgültig auf in den Cape Epic-Olymp – wenn sie da nicht so oder so schon gewesen ist. Die Dänin hat gemeinsam mit Sofia Gomez Villafane das Cape Epic 2025 gewonnen und damit den sechsten Gesamtsieg perfekt gemacht – bei der sechsten Teilnahme wohl gemerkt. Die 41-Jährige, die gestern Geburtstag feierte, ist damit auch die alleinige Rekordsiegerin bei der Tour de France der Mountainbikerinnen und Mountainbiker – Karl Platt und Christoph Sauser kommen in der Elite-Klasse jeweils auf fünf Siege. Zweite wurden in diesem Jahr Vera Looser und Alexis Skarda vor Bianca Haw und Hayley Preen.

Aufgrund heftiger Regenfälle in der Nacht und am Morgen wurde die finale Etappe am heutigen Sonntag kurzerhand etwas umverlegt und der Start auf 10:30 Uhr Ortszeit verschoben. Aus den ursprünglich angedachten 64 Kilometer und 2100 Höhenmetern wurden schließlich 40 Kilometer und 1050 Höhenmeter – die Chancen eines Angriffs auf das orangefarbene Leadertrikot von Vera Looser und Alexis Skarda waren auf der kurzen Runde somit kaum mehr gegeben – sofern man überhaupt noch von einer Chance sprechen wollte, schließlich lag das Duo vor dem finalen Teilstück über 23 Minuten hinter Langvad/Gomez Villafane.

Diese Woche war einfach verrückt. Es verlief nicht wirklich nach Plan und nach einem Sturz zu Beginn des Rennens hatte ich starke Schmerzen. Sofia war einfach die tollste Partnerin, aber ich hatte keinen Spaß da draußen. Aber zu gewinnen ist unglaublich. Ich habe vor sieben Monaten entbunden. Ich bin jahrelang nicht Rad gefahren. Die Leute denken, ich sei eine übermenschliche Radfahrerin. Aber diese Woche war sehr hart. Ich bin jetzt müde. Ich möchte mich nur noch hinlegen. – Annika Langvad

Und so passierte auch nichts gravierend spektakuläres auf der letzten Etappe des Cape Epic 2025. Monica Calderon Martinez und Tessa Kortekaas drückten früh aufs Tempo und lösten sich gemeinsam mit Katazina Sosna-Pinele/Claudia Peretti von der Konkurrenz. Die Spitzenteams ließen das Quartett erstmal ziehen, da die Gefahr in der Gesamtwertung überschaubar war.

Sofia Gomez Villafane war nicht zu stoppen. Gemeinsam mit Annika Langvad sicherte sich die Argentinierin verdient den Gesamtsieg 2025. Für sie ist es Triumph Nummer 2, für Langvad - man verneige sich - Nummer 6!

Und so kam das Team Cannondale ISB Sport zu der besonderen Ehre den letzten Tagessieg einzuheimsen vor Torpado Kenda FSA WMN, während Vera Looser und Alexis Skarda auf Platz drei finishten. Annika Langvad und Sofia Gomez Villafane, die zum zweiten Mal das Cape Epic gewann, ließen es zum Schluss ausrollen und wurden Sechste, hatten die Lage aber die komplette Woche über voll im Griff.

Annika hat seit dem Crash im Stillen gelitten. Ich glaube nicht, dass ich das hätte tun können, was sie diese Woche getan hat, und es war mir eine Ehre, ihre Partnerin zu sein und ihr zu ihrem sechsten Titel zu verhelfen. Ich freue mich auch, den Titel zurückzubekommen! Herren: Schurter und Colombo lassen nichts mehr anbrennen

Nino Schurter und Filippo Colombo heißen die verdienten Sieger des Cape Epic 2025. Auf dem letzten, verkürzten Teilstück rund um das Lourensford Wine Estate reichte bei Simone Avondetto und Luca Braidot die Kraft nicht mehr für einen entscheidenden Angriff auf Gelb. Die beiden Italiener sicherten sich aber hochverdient Platz zwei vor den Südafrikanern Marco Joubert und Tristan Nortje. Der prestigeträchtige letzte Etappensieg ging derweil an Georg Egger und Lukas Baum, die damit einen versöhnlichen Abschluss des Cape Epic 2025 verbuchen.

Der Verlauf des Rennens ist im Grunde in wenigen Worten wiedergegeben: Georg Egger und Lukas Baum starteten mit dem klaren Plan, auch noch eine entscheidende Rolle bei dem diesjährigen Cape Epic zu spielen und wollten mit aller Macht den Tagessieg. Was es bedeutet, wenn die beiden Lokomotiven aufs Gaspedal drücken und nicht durch unglückliche Umstände ausgebremste werden, muss man spätestens seit deren Gesamtsieg 2022 nicht näher erläutern. Und so kam es wie kommen musste: Das gesamte Feld platze weg – nur Schurter und Colombo konnten folgen, die dankenswerterweise zwei Zugpferde hatten auf dem Weg zum Gesamtsieg.

Es ist ein kleiner Bonus, heute zu gewinnen und gibt uns ein gutes Gefühl, die Veranstaltung mit einem Etappensieg zu verlassen. Wir wussten, wenn wir heute von Anfang an hart fahren würden, könnten wir das Feld teilen und möglicherweise den Sieg holen. Wir haben einfach alles gegeben und sind belohnt worden. – Lukas Baum

Dass Georg Egger im Wind mit Lukas Baum am Hinterrad auf der Ebene dann Nino Schurter abschüttelte, zeigt das eigentliche Potential des Duos, sodass es am Ende ein verdienter Tagessieg für die Speed Company-Mannschaft wurde. Zweiter wurde Scott-SRAM, die damit den Overall-Triumph unter Dach und Fach brachten, während Matt Beers und Keegan Swenson auf Platz drei ebenfalls noch einen versöhnlichen Abschluss verbuchten. In der Gesamtwertung gab es derweil keine Veränderungen mehr. Hinter Schurter/Colombo landete Avondetto/Braidot auf der Zwei vor Tristan Nortje und Marco Joubert. Lukas Baum und Georg Egger finshten auf einem respektablen fünften Rang. Bei den Masters ging der Sieg indes an Karl Platt und Calle Friberg, während bei den Grand Masters Udo Bölts und Robert Sim triumphierten.

Das war die ganze Woche über ein hartes Rennen und das hat sich bis zum letzten Tag fortgesetzt. Das ist ein sehr schöner Sieg. Vor dem Grand Finale haben wir festgestellt, dass wir ein gutes Tempo vorlegen können, und an diesem Tag hat alles für uns funktioniert. Es ist eine ganz andere Art von Rennen als im Weltcup, aber hier zu gewinnen ist immer ein Karriere-Highlight. Die Teamdynamik macht es so interessant, und wenn man den richtigen Partner hat, ist es sehr erfolgreich. – Nino Schurter

    Wenn man schon andere Kategorien als die Elite mit einbezieht, hat Karl Platt übrigens schon 8 Gesamtsiege auf dem Konto, Christoph Sauser kommt auf 7 und Bart Brentjens sogar auf 9.
    Nicht zu vergessen das Karl Platt mittlerweile 21 mal gefinished hat

    Und ich wage mal die steile These, dass Udo Bölts an keinem seiner Räder einen Wattmesser hat. Unvorstellbar für viele hier.

    Ich glaube nicht, dass viele der jungen Hobby-Fahrer so viel trainieren wie Karl Platt 😀. Wobei trainieren in seinem Fall vermutlich einfach bedeutet, dass er ganz viel Zeit damit verbringt das zu tun, was ihm eh am meisten Spaß macht.

    Auf Strava sieht sein Training tatsächlich nach einfach nur viel fahren aus
